Whilst the first announced acquisitions in October ( SAP acquired TechWolf, Personio acquired Circula, Workday acquired C1.ai) created another set of consolidation waves, these will be covered in the October summary next months.

Here comes the update for M&A activity in September 2026. The month has seen a massive amount of M&A underlining the market is very active at the moment. Key transactions were dominated by large platform moves in payroll and business software for SMBs and accountants, with private equity in the driver’s seat. Two other themes stood out. AI-powered talent and skills assessment remains a favoured M&A target (Empion, Workera, Harver/Symphony Talent). And consolidation continues in employee benefits, rewards and financial wellbeing (Stream/Salary Finance, Tillo/Amilon, Pirkx). On the services side, HR Path keeps its pace of acquisitions in Germany and the UK.
