Again, April saw some interesting growth investments from VCs into European HRTech and WorkTech startups and scaleups. With a still challenging market environment as all, clients, investors and vendors, are still trying to find the exact sweet-spots of opportunities coming about with the rise of AI, we still see similar patterns in continued funding. Workforce management saw several larger funding rounds following the hypothesis of vertical solutions in underdigitized frontline worker industries showing strong traction and additional value through the introduction of AI. Also recruitment tech as well as edtech (both in corporate, student and private learning context) continue to show traction and larger funding. This month, especially the UK startup and scaleup ecosystem saw a lot of activity.

💵 Sona (🇬🇧) raised a $45 million in Series-B funding led by N47, with participation from existing investors Felicis, Northzone, Gradient, and Italian Founders Fund, bringing its total funding to over $100 million. Sona offers a platform with workforce management at its core, enabling frontline businesses to build, run and adapt the software that powers their operations. 💵 Nesto Software GmbH (🇩🇪) raised a €11M growth funding round from from Expedition Growth Capital to scale its workforce management platform for hospitality and restaurant groups. The company states that its proprietary forecasting engine is at its core, predicting demand and staffing needs in real time. By integrating data from point-of-sale systems, suppliers, payroll providers and more, Nesto automates workforce scheduling, HR processes, payroll preparation and agentic workflows that support managers in their daily operations.
